NOTHING WITHOUT YOU GOD

What a Year! What a life! What joy it brings me in sharing my experiences with you. Time flies, I find myself lamenting over what wasn’t accomplished, nothing is as sobering as approaching the end of 365 days and feeling like you have nothing to show for it. The fact that you are still breathing is enough. If you have nothing to be thankful for the simple fact that you are still alive is in itself enough to give glory to God.  This has been such a challenging year nonetheless God is still God unmoved by my inconsistencies. I hope you get the chance to reflect on your year, to take a moment and recognize that despite what you went through You are still breathing, alive and still in his hands.

Nothing Without God

It has been a year of brokenness, which has led me to understand  that I am simply nothing without God, I can do nothing without him. It is a great place to start, to be honest in accepting your own limitations as a person. In recognizing that no matter how much value you attribute to your self, no matter how great you are you can’t save yourself. You need a savior, once you make peace with this simply fact, it becomes easier to cry out to God anytime you fall short, anytime you fail, and any time you are confronted with your failing nature.

Humility is a posture of your heart

Nothing robs us of the sweet grace of God than our pride, it is pride that convinces you that you can’t speak of your weakness. It is pride that convinces you that somehow you are far better than others. Pride will keep you  from repeantence, hardening your heart and making it impossible to commune with God. When we are quick to see the faults in others we fail to examine our own hearts.

Charles Spurgeon writes

Pride is a thing which should be unnatural to us, for we have nothing to be proud of. In almost every other sin, we gather us ashes when the fire is gone. But here, what is left? The covetous man has his shining gold, but what does the proud man have? He has less than he would have had without pride, and is no gainer whatever. Pride wins no crown.

It is in humility where you recognize that nothing good exists in you. Humility teaches you that you have absolutely nothing in you to be proud of, humility teaches you that you are a sinner in need of a savoiur at every waking day. Humility forces you to use the standard of Jesus Christ as the only yardstick to judge one’s righteousness. Once you learn how to look to Christ when judging yourself, how then could you look at an other and judge your self to be much more worthy of grace. In Romans 3:23 we are reminded that everyone has sinned and fallen short of his grace, how then could we ever be proud or boastful about our flawed nature.

He will Complete the work in you

That has been my biggest struggle, keeping my eyes on Christ, using his life to judge my self. It is hard, living based on a standard that has been set by our savior but nonetheless God promises us in

Philippians 1:6

“that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”

I’m only learning that now that, I do not complete the work of salvation in my life, God will simply do as his word promises, all I have to do is show up ready to die to myself. It is a long process that requires you to have a heart rooted in humility. It is only through humility in keeping our eyes on Christ as the sole standard to live by that we can recognize that we can never boast in anything that we have. In comparison to what Jesus has done, our efforts are only pitiful.

Reflect Jesus’s character

More than wanting us to achieve our dreams, reach our goals God wants us to reflect the character of Jesus in our everyday life. When we say thy will be done, we are simply saying our will is non existent, it is a declaration that we offer our whole beings to him in a form of sacrifice. Dying to yourself ain’t easy at all, it is hard work, most days i’m faced with discouragement, and despair but nonetheless

Luke 9:23 reminds us that

“If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me.”

Its a Process

As long as you can truly say you aren’t the person you were yesterday then you are on the right track. It is easy to get discouraged when your actions fail to align with what you believe to be absolute truths about your life. Quitting is easy, saying no to the process for  life of mediocrity is easy. I urge you to keep one foot forward keeping your eyes on the author and perfecter of your faith.

In time you will reap what you sow, in time you will recognize that the christian walk is a life time, a life time that is rooted in repeatence, surrender and joy despite one’s circumstances.

A we approach a new year, I pray that God gives you the strength and courage to continue living for him unapologetically with the assurance that he is the God of his word.
